Preserving & Promoting the True Spirit of the Sport

The Historic Grand Prix Cars Association was formed in 1979 by a group of leading historic racing enthusiasts dedicated to keeping alive the spectacle of the Grand Prix race cars in action - Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, ERA, BRM, Cooper and Lotus and more. Over the years the Association has been extremely successful and now organises grids of historic race cars at many of Britain and Europe's most prestigious race meetings.

With cars spanning half a century of motor racing, from the 1920s to the 1960s, the developments in both design and engineering which took place during these years can be seen at close quarters - one of the most dramatic being the move in the late 50s of the engine from the front to the rear of the car.

Racegoers are enthralled by the special smell, sound and thrills of the early days of the sport; wheel to wheel battles, dicing for position, four wheel drifts through corners and the occasional spin all make for 'edge of the seat' spectating.

And, when the racing is over, all have the opportunity to inspect and photograph or just get close to the cars and see them in all their glory in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere so different to that which exists in the world of modern 'professional' racing.

In 2001, the Association established races for 1950s drum braked sports cars to include such illustrious marques as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Ferrari, Frazer Nash, Allard, Jaguar, Lotus, Cooper, HWM, OSCA, Lister, etc. The first race was held at the 2001 Silverstone Historic Festival.

In 2005 the Association's programme includes the Grand Prix de Pau Historique, the Silverstone Classic, the Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or at Dijon, Grande Premo do Porto, Brands Hatch Superprix, AvD Old-Timer Grand Prix Nurburgring, VSCC SeeRed Donington, and Estoril Historic Festival.
